Anorexia is an eating disorder—a psychiatric condition marked by fear of
gaining weight, a distorted mental picture of what one’s body actually
looks like, and extreme dieting in order to lose weight. Many anorexics
also exercise for long periods or take diuretics (drugs that increase urine
output) in order to lose weight.
